With Hayon at Interieur Jaime Hayon is the Guest of Honour at the Biennal Interieur 2008, held in the Belgian city of Kortrijk. Bd has a dual presence, as it appears both on one of the stands at the fair and in the major retrospective exhibition of Hayon, who has become Spain’s most internationally acclaimed designer. The Showtime collection will share space with his projects for other Spanish companies such as ArtQuitect, Metalarte, Camper and Lladró, added to which is his most recent work for Bisazza, Moooi and Established & Sons. True to his style, Hayon has planned a museum exhibition, with pedestals to display the pieces, decorated walls and a cafeteria furnished in the style of a theatre. The exhibition coordinator, Dieter Van Den Storm, has also paid tribute to the Spaniard’s talent by claiming “I admire him for the way in which he transforms the history of design to his own benefit, sometimes joyfully, with fun, often extravagantly. Jaime Hayon is the paradigm of this new generation of Renaissance creative men”. We agree with him, although perhaps his last comment about the Renaissance comparison is a bit over the top. It remains to say that at the last edition of Interieur, the Guest of Honour was Alfredo Häberli.
